This Week: Irma's Effects!

Construction crews worked over the end of last week/this weekend to prepare the job site for any potential impacts from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irma, including: taking down all the windscreen and wayfinding signs from the project fence, lowering the boom on the crane, and checking for items throughout the site to be sure they would not become airborne.

Additionally, work started up again to set the steel H piles, install lagging, and drilling the tie backs for the retaining wall system. Crews have also started placing steel on the concrete foundation for the project mockup in the courtyard behind Raoul Hall.

Crews also continued working on a water line relocation and storm lines in the area behind Turman Hall. The mechanical subcontractor is also working to weld together sections of chilled water piping.

Question of the Week

What is the purpose of a project mockup?
A project mockup is a mini-version of specific sections of the exterior cladding of a building. It provides us a chance to review -- in the field! -- how various components of the walls and window systems interact with one another. It also provides a glimpse of how various materials look in relation to one another on site. Seeing all this in the early stages of a project allows us the opportunity to make changes, if deemed necessary, before long-lead items (such as window systems) are fabricated and delivered to the project.
