Happy Orientation & First Day of Class!
This week, crews will begin prepping for work on the shoring wall systems that will be needed for the project, as well as placing steel piles for retaining walls. Work will continue on site utilities, including a new water line that will serve the CLC and several adjacent residence halls.
Additionally, steam lines will be installed in the loading dock area of the AMUC in preparation of tying the system to the campus steam distribution system next week.
Question of the Week
What's this "AMUC" building I keep hearing about?
The Alumni Memorial University Center, or "AMUC," is the title of the building left over from the demolition of the DUC west wing. Originally, the university center consisted of a dining hall and auditorium constructed in 1927, and with the addition to the east side of that structure in 1950, was named the Alumni Memorial University Center, dedicated to the memory of Emory alumni who gave the ultimate sacrifice in war. It was renamed the Dobbs University Center in 1986 after the Portman-designed west wing was added. Since the Campus Life Center will be a separate building from the older part of the university center, the university has decided to return to its original name, the Alumni Memorial University Center, nicknamed "AMUC."
